A project is your own workspace — a build you are working on, private by default, with your own notebook of materials, tools, steps and photos. A guide is a project you have published so others can follow it, either free or for a price. In short: you make a project, then you can turn it into a guide. Anyone who opens your guide can start their own project from it and layer in their own materials, photos and notes.

Yes. Manual use of all project features is free forever — make projects, fill in your notebook, publish and sell guides, follow other makers. The subscription unlocks AI features like AI-suggested steps, smart material search, and auto-generated guides. You can earn money as a creator on the free plan.

A blueprint is a clean, IKEA-style line diagram Makeit draws for a build — either of the finished result or of a single step. It turns a wall of text into something you can glance at while your hands are busy. Detailed AI guides come with a finished-product blueprint, and you can generate a diagram for any individual step.

Tips are short, bite-sized pieces of maker knowledge — quick, useful, one nugget each. They appear in the Knowledge Base and in the feed. Tips are always public and free.

A cooperative project is where a verified maker actively guides you through an entire build — check-ins, photo reviews, problem solving. It is mentorship for a specific project. Prices are set by the creator.

Public shares your result (photos, reel) on the Feed — others can admire it but not access the instructions. Published shares the full notebook (materials, tools, steps) either free or at a price you set. Published is how you earn money.

Complete a project, fill in the notebook (materials, tools, steps), then go to the Publish tab and set it to Published with a price. Your guide immediately appears in the Knowledge Base for others to find and buy.

When someone buys your published guide, you keep 100% of the price you set — sellers pay no fees and Makeit deducts nothing from the sale. The buyer pays a small service fee on top at checkout, which covers the platform and payment processing (guides sold by Creator Pro members carry no buyer fee, so they cost less). Your earnings build up as a cash balance in Settings under Creator Earnings, and once you connect a payout account with Stripe you can withdraw straight to your bank.

Yes. Any registered user can purchase a paid guide regardless of their plan — and selling is open to everyone too. No subscription is needed to buy or sell guides.

You earn XP by completing projects, publishing guides, receiving good reviews, and having your work cloned by other makers. XP builds your credibility and unlocks rewards like hardware store gift cards.

Every free account gets one Quick Start AI guide or project per day — a concise, written starting point generated in seconds. Detailed guides with blueprints, photo-to-guide, PDF-to-guide, and audio or video conversion are part of the Premium plan. Every manual feature stays free forever.

Paid plans run on a monthly pool of AI credits. A detailed guide — a full written plan plus a finished-product blueprint — costs 6 credits. A Quick Start guide or project costs 1, a single step-by-step blueprint costs 1, an audio conversion costs 2, and a video-to-guide costs 5. Premium includes 50 credits a month; Creator Pro includes 120. The app always shows the cost before you generate, so you are never charged by surprise.

You can top up any time with a credit pack (50 or 150 credits) from Account & Plans, or simply wait for your monthly allowance to renew on the 1st. Running low never blocks the rest of the app — every manual feature keeps working.

Your monthly plan credits reset at the start of each month and do not carry over. Credit packs you buy on top are different — those never expire, and they are only used once your monthly credits are spent.

Detailed guides are generated by Claude Opus, Anthropic's most capable model, then checked by a second pass for consistent measurements and cut lists. Quick Start guides use a faster model for speed. Blueprints are drawn as clean, IKEA-style step diagrams. It is the same engine across every plan — paid tiers simply give you more of it.

Yes. Your private projects are only visible to you. Published content is visible to others only after you explicitly publish it. We use Supabase with row-level security — your data is protected at the database level.

AI features only ever run on content you choose to generate with — your prompt, your photos, and the guide you're working on. Your private projects and guides are never read by AI and never seen by other makers. A published guide may be used as a reference to spot similar existing guides for someone else, but only because you already made it public. Anything sent to our AI providers (Anthropic and OpenAI) is used solely to produce your result — it is never used to train their models. If you want something kept entirely away from AI, simply keep it private.
