Terms & Conditions

Last updated: June 2026

Please read these Terms & Conditions carefully before using Makeit. By creating an account or using the platform, you agree to be bound by these terms.

1. Acceptance of Terms

By accessing or using Makeit ("the Platform"), you confirm that you are at least 16 years old, have read and understood these Terms, and agree to comply with them. If you do not agree, do not use the Platform.

Makeit is operated by Makeit B.V., a company registered in the Netherlands. These Terms are governed by Dutch law.

2. User-Generated Content

Guides, projects, comments, videos, images and all other content published on Makeit are created by our community of makers. Makeit does not verify the accuracy, completeness, safety or legality of every guide.

By publishing content on Makeit, you confirm that:

You own or have the right to publish the content.

The content does not infringe any third-party intellectual property rights.

You do not knowingly publish dangerous, misleading or illegal instructions.

You grant Makeit a worldwide, royalty-free, non-exclusive licence to display, distribute and promote your content through the Platform.

You retain ownership of your original content.

3. Use at Your Own Risk

Hands-on projects can be dangerous. You are solely responsible for assessing whether a guide is appropriate for your skill level, tools, environment and local regulations.

Makeit provides guides as informational content only. We do not guarantee that any guide is safe, complete or suitable for your specific circumstances.

Always exercise independent judgement before beginning any project. When in doubt, consult a qualified professional.

4. Safety & Hazardous Activities

Some projects on Makeit may involve one or more of the following hazardous activities:

Power tools, cutting equipment and machinery

Electrical wiring, circuits and high-voltage systems

Gas, heating systems and combustibles

Structural and load-bearing construction work

Chemicals, paints, solvents and adhesives

Ladders, scaffolding and working at height

Vehicles and mechanical systems

Laboratory or workshop procedures

Always wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and follow the manufacturer's instructions for all tools and materials. Ensure your workspace is safe before starting.

Projects are tagged with difficulty levels (Beginner / Intermediate / Advanced) and risk indicators. High-risk projects require advanced knowledge and proper equipment — do not attempt them unless you are fully qualified to do so.

5. Local Regulations & Compliance

Building codes, electrical regulations, safety standards and legal requirements vary by country and municipality. A guide published in one country may not comply with the laws of your location.

You are solely responsible for ensuring that any project you undertake complies with all applicable local laws, regulations, permits and codes — including but not limited to:

Building and construction permits

Electrical installation regulations (e.g. NEN 1010 in the Netherlands)

Gas and plumbing regulations

Environmental and waste disposal laws

Occupational health & safety requirements

6. AI-Generated Content

Makeit uses artificial intelligence to generate guides, project plans, material estimates, cost budgets, blueprints, visual renders and design concepts. This AI-generated content is provided for informational and inspirational purposes only.

AI-generated content may contain inaccuracies, omissions or errors. Always verify AI-generated instructions, measurements and material lists independently before acting on them.

Blueprints, renders and design illustrations generated by AI are visual aids only. They should not be interpreted as certified engineering drawings, structural plans or construction specifications unless explicitly stated otherwise.

Makeit makes no warranty that AI-generated content is accurate, current or fit for any particular purpose.

7. No Professional Advice

Content on Makeit — whether user-generated or AI-generated — does not constitute professional advice of any kind, including:

Structural or civil engineering advice

Architectural or design advice

Electrical or mechanical engineering advice

Legal or regulatory advice

Medical or safety advice

Financial or investment advice

For projects involving structural work, electrical installations, gas, plumbing or other regulated trades, always consult a licensed and qualified professional.

8. Verified Projects

Certain guides may carry a "Verified" badge. This indicates that the guide has undergone additional review by Makeit staff or has been successfully reproduced and confirmed by members of the community.

Verification does not guarantee that a project is safe or suitable for every person, location or set of circumstances. A verified project still carries inherent risks, and all other sections of these Terms apply equally.

9. Intellectual Property

Creators retain ownership of their original content. By publishing on Makeit, you grant us a licence to display, distribute and promote your content through the Platform and associated channels.

You may not reproduce, redistribute or republish paid guides outside of Makeit without explicit written permission from the creator.

You may not copy, reproduce, re-upload or redistribute any guide created by another user — whether paid or free — for commercial gain, on or off this platform. This includes reselling guide content, repurposing it for paid courses or publications, or presenting another creator's work as your own. Violations may result in immediate account suspension and legal action.

The Makeit name, logo, trademarks and platform design are the exclusive property of Makeit B.V. and may not be used without prior written consent.

10. Payments & Creator Earnings

Sellers pay no fees on Makeit. When a user buys a paid guide, the creator keeps 100% of the price they set — Makeit takes no seller commission and deducts nothing from the sale.

The buyer pays a service fee on top of the guide price at checkout, which covers the platform and Stripe payment processing. Guides sold by Creator Pro members carry no buyer service fee.

Payments are processed by Stripe. Makeit does not store card details.

Creator earnings accrue as a cash balance and can be withdrawn to your bank via Stripe, subject to minimum thresholds and payout schedules.

Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each billing period unless cancelled.

Refunds are issued at the discretion of Makeit and subject to our refund policy.

You are responsible for declaring and paying any applicable taxes on income earned through the Platform.

11. Prohibited Content

You may not publish content that:

Involves illegal activities or instructs others to break the law

Involves the manufacture of weapons, explosives or dangerous devices

Involves unsafe electrical practices that could cause fire, electrocution or injury

Contains hate speech, harassment or content that targets individuals

Deliberately misleads others in a way that could cause harm

Infringes third-party intellectual property or privacy rights

Contains adult content not appropriate for a general audience

Contains profanity, offensive language or aggressive behaviour directed at other users or the community

12. Content Moderation

Makeit reserves the right to review, moderate, edit or remove any content that violates these Terms or that we determine, at our sole discretion, to be harmful, inappropriate or in breach of applicable law — without prior notice.

We also reserve the right to suspend or permanently ban accounts that repeatedly or seriously violate these Terms.

If you encounter a guide that you believe is unsafe, inaccurate or in violation of these Terms, please use the report function or contact us at legal@makeit.build.

13. Age Requirements

You must be at least 16 years old to create an account on Makeit. Users under 18 must obtain parental or guardian consent before undertaking any project that involves hazardous tools, materials or activities. Adult supervision is strongly recommended for all minors.

14. Limitation of Liability

Please read this section carefully — it limits Makeit's legal liability.

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Makeit B.V. and its directors, employees, contractors and affiliates shall not be liable for:

Personal injury, death or property damage arising from following a guide

Financial loss resulting from project estimates, material lists or AI-generated budgets

Any damage caused by inaccurate, incomplete or outdated guide content

Loss of data, service interruptions or platform downtime

Actions or omissions of third-party creators, service providers or tools

Where liability cannot be excluded by law (for example, for gross negligence or intentional misconduct), it is limited to the maximum extent permitted by Dutch law.

Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability in ways not permitted under applicable consumer protection law in the Netherlands or the European Union.

15. Privacy

Your use of Makeit is also governed by our Privacy Policy, which explains how we collect, use and protect your personal data in compliance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). You can review your privacy settings and data rights within the app at any time.

16. Changes to These Terms

Makeit may update these Terms from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes via in-app notification or email. Continued use of the Platform after changes take effect constitutes your acceptance of the revised Terms.

17. Governing Law & Disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Netherlands. Any disputes arising from or relating to these Terms or the Platform shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the competent courts in the Netherlands, without prejudice to mandatory consumer protection rights under EU law.
